Applying for an Account

Accounts on Popnet are granted to graduate students, staff, faculty and some other persons affiliated with the Population Research Institute.  Attendees of PRI hands-on workshops are also eligible for guest accounts.  If you need an account, fill out an applicationform (pdf document) or stop by 804 Oswald and obtain an application form there.

Unix Accounts can typically be created on the spot without an appointment, but this will depend on the technical staff's availability. If you would like to schedule a time for account creation send an email to Help@pop.psu.edu and someone will contact you on with their availability.

In addition to agreeing to the terms in the account application form, you must adhere to the following guidelines:

• Share lab resources with other Popnet users.
• DO NOT share your account/password.
• Creating a password that adheres to the POPNet Password Guidelines
• Not violating any laws with your use of your account.
• Not violating licensing agreements with software manufacturers represented on Popnet.
• Not violating any Penn State University's policies with your use of your account.

We monitor lab/account activities and if we determine that you are not adhering to our guidelines (or in violation of any Penn State policies) we will lock your account.
