What is an embargo period?

The embargo period is the length of time between the publication of an article in a journal and its public availability in PubMed Central. It is meant to protect the journal's revenue.

Under NIH policy, the embargo period can be any length of time up to 12 months.

You must deposit your manuscript in PubMed Central immediately upon acceptance, but you can specify an embargo period. Check your publication or copyright agreement for the journal's requirements.
