Using Mac Mail with PSU, PopNet or Gmail mail accounts

To access your PSU mail, follow the instructions here
Gmail
Have not confirmed this info on gmail imap for apple mail
PopNet Email
PopNet email may be discontinued, but for now you can use it.
Instructions were tested with Leopard and SnowLeopard.
To access your PopNet for Incoming and Outgoing mail, follow these steps:
- NOTE: If Mac Mail is NOT your default mail client, a Welcome to Mac Mail Wizard will immediately appear, and you can start these instructions at step 4. If you have used Mac Mail before, please continue to step 2.
3. Click Add Account.
4. In the Welcome/Add Account screen, add the following:
- Full Name: Add the name to appear on this account.
- Email Address: (Ex. xyz123@pop.psu.edu)
- Password: PopNet Unix ID password.
5. Click Continue.
6. In the Incoming Server Screen, add the following:
- Account Type: Select IMAP from the drop down menu.
- Description: PRIAUTHSMTP
- Incoming Mail Server: imap.pop.psu.edu
- User Name: PopNet Acccount ID (Ex. xyz123).
- Password: PopNet Account ID password.
7. Click Continue.
8. This is the Incoming Mail Security Screen.
- Make sure Use Secure Socket Layers (SSL) is checked.
- Make sure Authentication is Password.
9. Click Continue.
10. For the Outgoing Mail Server:
- Click on the Outgoing Server to get the "Edit Server List" option
- In the Account Information tab enter:
- Description: [optional] This is just an alias like MyPopNetMail
- Outgoing Mail Server: authsmtp.pop.psu.edu
- In the Advanced tab, specify
- Use Custom port 465 and check Secure Sockets Layer
- Specify Authentication Password and supply your unix PopNet id/pw
11. Click Continue.
12. This is the Account Summary Screen.
- Double check all the information to make sure it is correct.
- Take Account Online should be checked.
13. Click Create.
To access your PopNet for Sent, Drafts, Trash, and Junk mail:
- Click/highlight "Sent" in the left menu.
- In the toolbar click "Mailbox".
- Scroll down to "Use This Mailbox For" and click on "Sent".
- Repeat this for the Trash, Junk, and Draft as needed.
