Applications Server
Information on how to access our Applications Server, which provides remote access to various licensed programs.
If you are a POP Account holder you have access to an applications server called Moscow on our network. This server is designed to provide access to expensive licensed programs that you would otherwise have to purchase to use. If you will be using a program on a daily basis we request you purchase a license and we will install that program on your workstation. The server can also be used to change your POP domain password. Below are instructions on how to use the server and a list of available applications.
Connecting to Moscow:
- If you are connecting from home, you first need a high-speed internet connection (DSL or Cable, not dialup) and the PSU VPN software. For more information about the PSU VPN click here. To download the VPN software click here (PSU access login required).
- Go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications>Remote Desktop Connection
- For the host name type: moscow.pop.psu.edu
- Click options, then under the "Local Resources" tab you can enable local devices (Disk drives and Printers) so that you can print/transfer files from the server
- Click connect
- Use your POP account and password
- You should now be logged into the server
IMPORTANT: When you are finished, on the SERVER go to: Start>Log Off. Do NOT select disconnect and do NOT just click the X on the session window. Unless you log off, your session will remain active.
